Café Culture serves speciality coffee, sandwiches, paninis, fruit and much more. 
If you have not been in recently to see the refurbished library why not take the chance now and enjoy a coffee at the same time. Free WiFi also available in the café.

Introduction to the Central Library

The Central Library has the following departments:

  •  - Information Services on the 2nd floor
  •  - Central Children's Library

  • Facilities are available for meetings, exhibitions, talks and there are special activities and events for children in the Central Children's Library. See the Library Events Calendar web page for details.

  • All departments offer internet access. Library members can have free internet access for two hours a day after which there is a charge of £1.00 per hour or part thereafter. Guests are charged 50p for half an hour and £1.00 per hour or part thereafter (excluding under 16’s or exempt borrowers).

Information Services

Information Services offer a public enquiry service and Reference Only access to:

  • Books
  • Newspapers and periodicals
  • Maps
  • Government Publications
  • Business Information (Company Information, Company Lists, Market Research, Trade and Business Directories etc)
  • Census Data
  • UK & European Legislation
  • Information Leaflets

Other Services:  Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database and Presentation software, CD-Roms, Meeting Room/IT suite for hire, Fax Service (sending and receiving), Photocopier, Scanning Facilities, Study area and study rooms.

Central Children's Library

Any child from 0 to 16 may join the Library. An application form will need to be countersigned by a parent or guardian and proof of identity will be required. The Children's Library offers:

Lending Services:
Books, Paperbacks, Large Print Books including storybooks, Poems, Jokes, board, picture books, touch and feel, lift the flap, DVD's & Videos, Spoken Word Cassettes.

Other Services:
Reference Books, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, database and presentation software, school visits.

*Activities at the Children's Library include:
Storytelling, craft sessions, the annual Summer reading game.

  • We provide a free confidential transcription service.  Printed documents are transcribed into an accessible format:  Braille, audio or large print.
    Braille or large print greetings can be produced to attach to Christmas and greetings cards for visually impaired family and friends
    Large print and talking books in cassette, CD and MP3 are available to borrow free of charge from all Doncaster libraries
    The Visually Impaired Readers Group meets every second Tuesday in the Central Library from 1.30-3.00.  Books are loaned on either MP3 or USB memory sticks. Join us for refreshments and a chat.
