DN Festival! DN Festival!

On Saturday 28th July Central Library is joining in with the DN Festival and this year the theme is Space. Events will be happening in Sir Nigel Gresley Square, the Cast, Waterdale Shopping Centre and Central library. Children can come into the Children’s Library and make a pop up rocket book or do the space quiz where Simon Bartram’s books will be given as prizes or they can head to the creative table to design an alien.

The author and illustrator of children’s books including ‘The Man on the Moon’ and ‘Disappearing Moon’ joins us in the children’s library to give some special readings of his books as well as a workshop on illustration. This will be at 13.00 (BSL interpreted) and 15.00 and each session will be for 30 minutes.

Also in the library there will be

Song writing team Jenkinson-Parks who invite you to explore your own song writing talents in this full-day workshop. Arrive with nothing but your enthusiasm and end the day by taking part in a performance of your own song. Based on the theme of Reaching for Space. This exciting opportunity to collaborate with a poet and a musician is open to all adults. This will be in the reception area of the Central library and you need to sign up in advance by emailing

If you want to listen to something special, join us in the lending library at 4pm for the Great Bentley Songbook, which features the Bentley Choir. This will also be BSL interpreted

We’d like to welcome back crime historian Stephen Wade.

His new book Murder in Mind is a selection of some of his favourite crime stories from the past, mixed with a memoir of growing up in Leeds. This fascinating talk will include references to some Doncaster stories, including that of his namesake, Stephen Wade, the hangman, and to more general tales, such as that of Jane Austen's aunt, who spent some time behind the walls of her local jail.

Don’t miss this great event. Join us at Central Library, Waterdale
